Senior Care Center Provides An Update On Senior Care Programs In Fullerton During The COVID-19 Pandemic
Senior Care Center, an organization that provides resources to families looking for elder care homes for their loved ones, is providing updates on the state of senior care programs in Fullerton, a city in northern Orange County, California, in the times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fullerton city has canceled all senior center activities and events to prevent the spread of the deadly disease. An official statement from the city that is available on its website, says, “Our staff has been working hard to ensure that those who are greatest in need in our community are protected and have given particular focus to protecting our seniors. As soon as we learned about the potential threat involving COVID-19, we began taking steps to ensure the safety of our seniors while maintaining essential city services to them. To reduce the risk of transmission and exposure to our seniors, we’ve canceled all Senior Center activities and events.”
The Fullerton Community Center is going to remain closed until the state approaches later phases in the reopening plans. Seniors who are in need, are encouraged to call (714) 738-6575 to be advised about the current programs that are being offered. Referrals to county resources and other services can also be provided. The Fullerton Community Center is encouraging seniors to get added to its Wellness Reassurance Call list in order to receive regular check-ins from the city staff and volunteers. Senior residents of Fullerton can learn more about the community center’s efforts during the pandemic by visiting its website.
In another helpful gesture to ensure the health of the senior community, the Fullerton Community Center, in a partnership with the Orange County Office on Aging, will be distributing emergency kits for free to adults older than 60 years. The registration for the same is supposed to open on May 3rd, 2021. They will also be distributing fit kits to the same demographic starting April 26th. The aim behind both initiatives is to keep elders prepared for any emergency at home and to keep them engaged in physical activity at home, respectively.
The Fullerton Community Center is also continuing partnerships with Meals on Wheels Orange County and Second Harvest Food Bank to meet new social distancing standards during the COVID-19 pandemic and still provide important food services to the city’s seniors. According to the updates to the program, the daily Congregate Meal program has transitioned into a frozen meal distribution for senior patrons in the community. Seniors can come in person to the Fullerton Community Center to pick up frozen meals on Tuesdays at 11 AM. New patrons will need to fill out an application form and a Meals on Wheels staff member will determine their eligibility. Deliveries of frozen meals to eligible seniors determined by Meals on Wheels staff will happen regularly every Wednesday.
Orange County has steadily improved its coronavirus situation. Its risk level was decreased from “Substantial” to “Moderate” based on the decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases per day over the last three weeks. As of 13th April 2021, Orange County is registering 3.0 new COVID-19 cases per day per 100K people, according to county metrics. According to the current risk level, some indoor business operations are allowed to open with modifications. The rollout of the vaccine is poised to show its effectiveness and further reduce the risk level.
